Paywast SMS Surveys Yield New Knowledge About ElectionsMarch 19, 2014

Paywast has recently conducted a large-scale elections survey across Afghanistan. We have asked our users if they know how to register to vote, if they have received a voter’s card, if they feel voting is safe, and if they would consider voting for someone outside their own ethnic group. We also asked users to share their home province and gender, and to share their opinions, thoughts and comments around elections. All in all, we collected more than 100,000 data points.

We have done analysis on the data, and shared charts, diagrams and cross data on our website, on Twitter and with media outlets in Afghanistan and abroad. But we want you to get to the bottom of what Afghans think about their elections. With this document we have attached a report with additional findings from the survey.

But we also believe that access to the data needs to be open and easy. We want to empower anybody to access information from our surveys, to learn more about Afghans’ attitudes towards elections, and to understand the public opinion around this important event. That is why we are today launching http://elections.paywast.af, a new website where everybody has full access to all data from our elections surveys.

On the Paywast 2014 Elections website, you can search in our data by combining up to 6 different criteria regarding respondents, their opinions and sentiment. There are thousands of ways to combine the criteria, and the website will generate diagrams and real time data points that you can use in your work, share on social media, or use as a foundation for discussion and debate.

For further information, and to receive the full dataset, please contact us directly. Paywast shares anonymous comments from survey respondents on @AFSpeaks on Twitter, on Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/Paywast729, and on http://elections.paywast.af

The latest report with survey findings is attached here, and can be downloaded from (here)
